On Wednesday, November 5, 2025, seventeen Mill Creek Village volunteers and guests enjoyed lunch at Sasuns Cafe, one of Mill Creek Village’s local business sponsors. The luncheon included hummus with pita and stuffed grape leaves, falafel, salad, pizza, and baklava for dessert. Anna McBain, President, Mill Creek Village and Judith Johnson, Volunteer Coordinator, expressed gratitude to the many volunteers that created and helped the organization to persevere and thrive in service to the Mill Creek Towne Community. A few of our neighbors who use our volunteer services expressed their thanks to our volunteers in person or via personal notes for their services to help them age in place.
Jay wrote, “The transportation provided through the Village has been essential on maintaining my health by assuring that I have transportation for dialysis. Three times a week I am picked up from DaVita in Germantown. We are slowly making friends in the community through transportation services. Their kindness is a gift that money can’t buy. Thank you once again for all your help.”
Mary wrote, “When we came to MCV there was no program established to lure us to one of the programs as stay in place; we were planning to move to warmer weather. My husband would go to the initial meetings and would come home excited to the plans of what was ahead for our community. I never planned on using our gift of living here. I have been blessed by the gift of living in a kind, generous, well-organized neighborhood. As I’m now a widow and feel safe to travel to the many doctors who seem to be multiplying, but it’s comforting to know I’m being taken care of. Thank you all for your constant care and willingness to help me. It’s truly a blessing to live in MCV. I can’t thank you enough.”
Another neighbor wrote, “Dear MCV Volunteers, Sorry to miss your appreciation day. Since I will not be there, I want to take the opportunity to thank each and everyone of you for all the rides you provided for my husband and me. Your volunteering to do that made life easier and better for us. I can never fully express my gratitude. You were there when we were so badly in need of help. And, I might add, always with a smile and a helpful hand.”
Mill Creek Village has served since 2013 as a charitable 501 c (3) organization community service organization assisting elderly neighbors in Mill Creek Towne. Mill Creek Village services include transportation support, grocery shopping, friendly home visits, check-in phone contacts, and technical assistance. MCV also fosters community-wide, intergenerational social connection via several annual events such as our picnic, ice cream social and Walk Around the Towne. Unlike other most senior villages across the country, Mill Creek Village continues to require no dues from its patrons, never has charged fees for its services and programs, nor ever had the assistance of paid professional staff.
The Village’s good work is made possible by the generous donation of time and energy of caring, community-minded neighbors who give of their time, energy, and thoughtfulness to serve as Village volunteers in an array of service and administrative capacities. These include the following roles:
- Board of Directors
- Social Committee
- Volunteer Coordinators
- Drivers
- Friendly Visitors/Callers
- Grocery Shoppers
- Technology Assistants
- Electronic Newsletter Editors
- Database Managers
- Website Administrators
- Facebook Page Moderator
- Spanish and Asian Language Interpreters
The time commitment varies by position but normally requires no more than 2-10 hours per month. With this call for volunteers, we hope to identify more than one person in certain roles who share the assignment.
If you are willing to make the effort to support your community and have the skills and experience that would be needed for one or more of the above roles, please contact the Village at mctvillage@gmail.com or 240-686-5870 and let us know of your interest. We will then be in touch with additional information and get the ball rolling on your engagement. We truly welcome your support to help us keep Mill Creek Towne a caring and connected community in which to live, raise families, and age well. Thanks!
